Lately I have been practicing a lot of ragtime pieces because they
have a lot of energy and are incredibly fun to play. Since COVID I
have not been able to resume lessons with my regular teacher, so
my practice time is spent with what will entertain the seniors
most at the retirement homes. It is also coincidental that I love
playing energetic music that they can dance to.
I learned the Maple Leaf Rag most recently and now I can add it to
my repertoire in addition to the Entertainer. I am learning The
Swipesy/Cakewalk Rag currently and am having a great time doing
so. I am fortunate in learning this one because it is not the most
technically difficult but it sounds great and is easy to tap your
feet or dance to.
Since I am at the end of learning The Swipesy, I have to listen to
Scott Joplin's music again to get an idea what to learn next. I am
fortunate it is all available online and that it is convenient to
listen to while I am running my daily errands.
