I have been given a large amount of time to practice since this
month has been slow in terms of performances, so I am focusing on
the 3rd movement of Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata and Elite
Syncopations by Scott Joplin. I am going to start learning the
Pineapple Rag next so my practicing will be a combination of
committing Elite Syncopations to further muscle memory and
starting to play through the Pineapple Rag.
I do not want to forget about logging of my progress of the 3rd
movement of the Moonlight Sonata though. I can play the first
section now without too much difficulty, and since I have to play
it at a great speed, I have committed it to memory. I feel
confident that I can perform that section at retirement homes
since it's about 3-4 minutes long with a repeat and feels slightly
complete. Today I am going to practice the first section again
without the sheet music in front of me and then I will get started
on the second section of the piece. The notes are not as
intimidating as the tempo but I have some tricks up my sleeve to
get the piece up to speed without having to play uncontrollably. I
have already dabbled in the second section, but only for a couple
of practice sessions. I look forward to the day I can perform the
entire piece for the retirement homes because I really think it is
an important piece of music to add to my repertoire. I have had
several students ask if I can play this piece and now I can
finally say I can!
