Yesterday I had a lot of time to practice, and today I had a lot
of time to practice as well. I was grateful for the opportunity
since I had not practiced for a while except for the practice I
get playing at the retirement homes. Both days I practiced "Elite
Syncopations" because I want to be able to have a set of four
ragtime pieces I can perform for people. It is so fun learning
those pieces and I feel like it is a big accomplishment if I have
four of one type of music to have in my repertoire. I learned four
Polonaises at the beginning of COVID-19 and now I have four
ragtime pieces I can play for people. I think next I am going to
look over the third movement of Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata to
see if I am able to play it with the dexterity needed.

      ------------
For the past two days I have been playing through the third
movement of Beethoven's "Moonlight Sonata" and I noticed that even
though the notes are not so challenging, the tempo is. I am glad I
have listened to the piece many times over my piano playing career
because I am able to play some of the piece by ear since I know
what it is supposed to sound like. I am torn whether to learn one
page at a time with both hands, learn one hand at a time, or learn
in a free-form fashion where I just play whatever I want from the
piece and hope for the best. My piano teaching instincts tell me
the latter is probably not the best unless it is only for the
first couple of days learning it, which have already passed.
Nevertheless I look forward to the day I can play it with the
      gusto it deserves.
